Update: Lanes are now open! Major delays on eastbound M56 J11 after a lorry fire closed all carriageways

11:10 Update:

There are still delays on M56 eastbound after a lorry trailer caught fire near junction 11 earlier this morning.

Police have been taking traffic off at junction 11 and diverting people around the scene of the fire as all carriageways are currently closed with Police saying thjey have no estimated time as to when they will reopen.

No one is believed to have been hurt thankfully.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue are at the scene and say:

“Four fire engines have been at the scene of a lorry on fire on the M56 between junctions 12 and 11 (east) at Daresbury.  Fire and rescue crews received a report of a trailer wheel on fire on a lorry on the hard shoulder. 

The trailer, carrying shredded tyres, became involved in the fire, affecting the hard shoulder and slip road with smoke affecting all three lanes. 

Firefighters, two wearing breathing apparatus, used two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze.  The crews are continuing to tackle the fire with hose reels and foam, and lanes one and two of the motorway are currently closed.”
