Halkyn woman found safe after multi-agency search across two days

A missing woman has been found safe in the Halkyn area after a search that ran across two days and drew in police, mountain rescue volunteers and members of the public.
The woman, named only as Gillian, was located at around 8pm on Thursday 14 May after a call from a member of the public who believed they had found her on their own land.
North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) said she was cold but safe, and that the Welsh Ambulance Service arrived shortly afterwards.
She was able to walk into the ambulance herself for further checks.
The operation began on Wednesday evening when North Wales Police contacted NEWSAR for assistance.
Volunteers carried out foot searches into the night before being stood down around midnight.
NEWSAR said searches resumed on Thursday morning with fewer volunteers available because of work commitments.
Help was requested from neighbouring teams at Cheshire Search and Rescue and Mon Search.
Further NEWSAR volunteers joined later that evening after finishing their day jobs.
Aerial support came from the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and the North Wales Police drone unit.
Dogs and handlers from SARDA Wales also took part.

In a statement, NEWSAR said: “At around 8pm, a call came in from a member of the public reporting that they believed they had located the missing person on their land. A small number of team members responded immediately and were relieved to find her cold, but thankfully safe.”
The team added: “While the team carried out an initial assessment, Welsh ambulance service arrived on scene. Thankfully, she was able to walk into the ambulance herself for further checks and care.”
NEWSAR said: “This outcome highlights the importance of partnership working, the support of the public, and the dedication shown by all volunteers involved over the two days.”
The team wished her well in her recovery.
North Wales Police confirmed the outcome in a separate statement.
On its North Flintshire Facebook page, the force said: “Following our appeal for Gillian, we are pleased to advise that she has been found safe.”
It added: “We would like to pass our thanks to the local community who assisted in our enquiries and the wider community for sharing the posts and raising awareness.”
The force also thanked mountain rescue volunteers, NEWSAR and NPAS for their part in the search.
Halkyn sits in the Brynford and Halkyn ward of Flintshire County Council.
