Flintshire pupils take action as Eco Champions

Flintshire County Council’s Eco Champions programme is encouraging primary school pupils to take practical steps to protect the environment.
The scheme explores biodiversity, climate change, energy and sustainability in a hands-on way, aiming to give children the knowledge and confidence to make a difference at school and home.
Earlier in 2025 pupils across the county took part, and the project is due to continue from September. Activities will focus on the links between climate change and nature loss, creating habitats for wildlife in schools and gardens, and learning about energy saving and waste reduction.
The sessions are delivered by the council’s Play Development Team, supported by the Natural Environment Team, and funded through the Welsh Government’s Local Places for Nature programme.
Cllr Chris Dolphin, Cabinet Member for Environment, Regeneration, Countryside and Tourism, said: “Flintshire Eco Champions is an excellent demonstration of cross department working between the Natural Environment and Play Development teams at Flintshire County Council. Acting for nature and our future generations is important across all our functions, it’s great to see grant funding secured to deliver such a positive project.”
