The father of a man in a critical condition after being assaulted in Ellesmere Port is appealing to the public for help in finding those responsible.

Marek flew from Poland to be at his son’s bedside while his family anxiously wait back home to hear from him.

Sometime between 1am and 1.15am on Monday 27th April 2015, the victim and his friend walked into Woodfield Road from the direction of Victoria Road, Ellesmere Port.

They were approached by a group of four men and after a brief conversation an altercation took place on Woodfield Road near to Victoria Road. The victim, Lucas, 25, was knocked to the floor and suffered a head injury, his friend was also assaulted.

The group were seen in the vicinity of Victoria Road, before leaving the area, at least one suspect left in a vehicle.

Lucas didn’t seek medical assistance until 30 April when he began feeling ill and he remains in Walton Hospital in a critical condition.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the assault and are appealing for people to contact them with information.

Marek said:

“I found out on Friday and flew here on Sunday. My wife and mother are waiting anxiously in Poland with his sister.”

Lucas was due to fly back home to be with his Goddaughter for her First Holy Communion. But now she’ll be making this milestone without him.

Marek said:

“We are devastated – the rest of the family wish they could be here with him. They are calling every five minutes but it’s very hard. They wait for good news, but there isn’t any.

“He was looking forward to going back to take part in his Goddaughter’s Holy Communion and now he is fighting for his life. He is a fighter; I hope and pray he will be okay.

“When we found out we couldn’t believe something like this could happen to him. He is a nice bloke, he plays the guitar and likes hanging out with his friends.

“I hope someone will feel he is a human being and will contact police if they know something. You can phone anonymously, tell police who did this.”

DS Rob Grantham said:

“This took place in a residential area and members of the public were around following the assault. I would urge anyone who saw the assault or the aftermath, to contact me as they may have vital information relating to this case.”

The investigation team is appealing for two people, a man who walked past before the assault took place and a woman who came to Lucas’s aid after he was assaulted.

The woman who helped the victim after he was knocked to the floor, is described as white having curly hair, possibly blonde.

The man is described as white, around 180cm tall, slim build, 30-40 years of age, with short dark hair. He was clean shaven, wearing a light coloured T shirt and dark coloured body warmer. He walked passed the victim and his friends in the alleyway before the altercation.

A 36-year -old local man has been arrested and bailed in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information should contact DS Rob Grantham on 101 quoting incident number 359 of 30 April 2015. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
