Driver arrested following fatal crash in Caerwys

North Wales Police have arrested the driver of a vehicle following a crash in Caerwys on Saturday which killed a pedestrian and left another with serious life changing injuries. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

A 42-year-old male driver of a Vauxhall combo van allegedly involved in the crash has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

The man who died in the collision has been named as Ryan Draper, he was 27-years-old and lived in the Caerwys area. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Mr Drapers girlfriend was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd by ambulance with serious life changing injuries, she was later transferred to hospital in Stoke. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision which occurred shortly before 00.45am on Saturday on the B5122 in Caerwys near to junction 34 of the A55. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

Sergeant Jason Diamond from North Wales Police’ Roads Policing Unit said: ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

“We continue to appeal for witnesses, in particular to anybody who may have seen two pedestrians walking along the B5122 in Caerwys to come forward. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

“Our investigation is ongoing and the family of Mr Draper are being supported by a specially-trained Family Liaison Officer.” ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

The family of Ryan Draper has issued a statement: ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

“Both Hilary and David Draper, and his brother Joshua are deeply saddened at the loss of our loving son Ryan who was tragically and suddenly taken from us. ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​

We loved him so much and he will always be in our hearts. God bless him and we pray that his girlfriend makes a full recovery.” ‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌​
