Drink drive arrest after public 999 calls about HGV ‘weaving’ across A55

A 51-year-old HGV driver has been given an interim disqualification after being charged with drink driving following a stop on the A55 on Friday night (October 10).
Police were alerted after members of the public made 999 calls reporting a lorry weaving across the eastbound carriageway from Holyhead on Anglesey.
Officers from North Wales Police Roads Crime Unit caught up with the HGV near the Britannia Bridge, where it was stopped at around 8pm.
The driver, from the King’s Lynn area of Norfolk, failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. A further test at custody recorded a reading of 123 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
He was charged with drink driving and remanded for court the following morning.
The man appeared before Mold Magistrates Court on Saturday, where he received an interim driving disqualification and was released on strict bail conditions. His next appearance is scheduled at Caernarfon Magistrates Court on November 11.
PC Kieran Davies of the Roads Crime Unit said: “We’d like to thank members of the public for calling the police. Drink driving risks the lives of all road users – but to be driving an HGV whilst over three times the legal limit is incomprehensible.”
Police are urging anyone with information about suspected drink or drug drivers to contact North Wales Police via the website or by calling 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.
