Deestriders celebrate PBs at Chester Marathon

At the St Asaph cross country on 4 October, Michelle Bowes led the Deestriders women home in 30 minutes and 3 seconds, followed by Christine Cammillare in 30:57 and Paul Aird in 36:32. Amanda Scotter crossed in 39:35, with Claire Harper finishing in 41:23 and Jane Blackwell in 47:37.
Among the men, Max Dowell recorded a time of 35:15, ahead of Ben Rowlands on 36:53, Paul Lewtey on 43:49, Tony Woodall in 46:09 and Darren Low in 49:30.
The RunWales Bangor Half Marathon was cancelled due to storm debris on the course, but runners were given the option to take part in the 10k race instead. Deestriders’ Andy Wainwright finished in 54:42 and Rhian Lloyd in 55:47.
Meanwhile, at the MBNA Chester Marathon and associated Metric Marathon, Deestriders members achieved a series of personal bests, supported by club volunteers among the event’s large team of marshals.
In the full marathon, Ben Rowlands ran a personal best of 3 hours and 16 seconds, followed by Ryan Johnson-Wilcox in 3:13:03 and Matt Davies in 3:13:26. Marc Dixon completed the course in 3:56:11, narrowly ahead of Rayko Kolev in 3:56:19. Mark Harney and Dafydd Morris both finished strongly in 5:12:42 and 5:14:26 respectively.
In the Metric Marathon, Grant McGowan achieved a personal best of 2:16:14, just ahead of Trevor Tommy in 2:16:27. Joe Blackwell also set a PB in 2:31:48, followed by Jo Clayton on 2:40:07 and Ruth Jones in 2:46:59. Gilly Mayes, Corinne Wardle and Natalie Davies all crossed the line together in 3:05:54, each recording personal bests. Phill Bryan added another PB for the club in 3:13:11, while Heather MacDonald finished in 3:28:53.
Deestriders press officer Jay Jennions said: “Active Leisure Events know how to put on a great race and the MBNA Chester marathons did not disappoint, backed up as always by an army of volunteers including Deestriders members.”
