Carwyn Jones set to appoint new cabinet
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Reappointed first minister Carwyn Jones is set to announce his a new cabinet as early as today following a Labour – Plaid deal which AM’s backed in the Senedd yesterday.
The deal to allow Mr Jones to continue as first minister saw Plaid Cymru withdraw Leanne Wood’s nomination on condition Labour hand a series of policy concessions to Plaid.
The agreement paved the way for Carwyn Jones reappointment and ultimately Assembly business can get back to normal after an extraordinary week in Welsh politics.
Ministerial appointments are expected today, with reports a few new faces are set for promotion.
There could also be a restructure of the cabinet with the possibility of fewer posts.
Three heavyweight positions have come as a result of the recent Assembly election through either choice or the will of voters.
Edwina Hart and Huw Lewis stood down while public services minister Leighton Andrews lost his seat in Rhondda to Plaid leader Leanne Wood.
There’s a degree of interest and hope in Deeside over who takes over the education portfolio, one of the first decisions the new minister will have to take is whether or not to back Flintshire County Council’s plans to close John Summers High School.
Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant has been clear in his support for the school to stay open and will no doubt seek to meet with a new education minster at the earliest opportunity.
Yesterday’s Labour – Plaid deal presented the perfect opportunity for disgraced ex-Tory now Ukip’s Assembly leader Neil Hamilton to grab some headlines and by doing so he managed to offend pretty much every female and no doubt male in the chamber and those watching both from the public gallery and live streams.
Hamilton branded Plaid leader Leanne Wood and Lib Dem AM Kirsty Williams ‘concubines’ in Carwyn Jones’ ‘harem’ after Plaid Cymru back down in fight to seize control of Welsh Assembly
Ukip had attempted to disrupt proceedings by nominating Neil Hamilton as First Minister, but Presiding Officer Elin Jones was having non of it and ruled against it.
The Tory old boy was ‘outraged’ at both Leanne Wood and Kirsty Willaims failure to remove Carwyn Jones as FM saying they had ‘betrayed the interests’ of Welsh voters.
In his debut address to the Assembly Hamilton said;
“I’m afraid these two ladies have made themselves political concubines in Carwyn’s harem – What a gruesome concept that will be.
“Leanne Wood has spoken many times of the need for a new dawn in Welsh politics and indeed that was possible a few days ago as we thought that the opposition parties, taken together, might be able to force a new deal, but sadly that didn’t prove to be the case.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/6″][vc_empty_space height=”1px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”5/6″][vc_column_text]
“Political concubines”

There’s no place for sexism in our National Assembly. Not prepared to accept racism or homophobia either. Be warned. https://t.co/62LjqXbE6O

The blatant sexist language was bad enough but Neil Hamilton actually talked about dodgy deals with a straight face.
