Residents in Deeside, Mold and Buckley are being advised to run their cold water kitchen taps after a burst on the Welsh Water network caused widespread discolouration of supply.

Welsh Water confirmed the issue on its website, saying teams are already on-site working to clear the network and restore normal service as soon as possible.

“We’re aware of discolouration affecting the area after a burst on our network,” the company stated. “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Customers affected by the discoloured water are being told to keep running their cold kitchen tap until the supply clears. Welsh Water says this can help flush out the system more quickly.

The incident is being managed through a five-stage repair process:

  • Stage 1: Investigation of the fault and health and safety risks

  • Stage 2: Locating the fault and planning necessary works

  • Stage 3: Repairing the issue with safety as a priority

  • Stage 4: Restoring the water network and surrounding areas

  • Stage 5: Issuing a final update to customers

Further updates will be issued on Welsh Water’s website as more information becomes available.

The company also reminded vulnerable residents that support is available through its Priority Services Register.

The scheme is aimed at those with medical conditions, as well as elderly or disabled individuals, and can include the delivery of bottled drinking water during supply disruptions.

Residents who may need extra assistance are encouraged to register for the scheme online.
