Buckley shop could become a baby-friendly play café

The former Almost Home Dog Rescue shop in Buckley Precinct has been earmarked as a new cafe for parents to bring their babies and toddlers to play and socialise with other children.
The idea is the brainchild of registerd childminder Sonia Sprake. She has proposed to turn the shop into a venture called Sonia’s Little Stars Cafe
Mrs Sprake currently offers term-time childcare to families in and around Buckley and Mynydd Isa.
If Flintshire County Council’s planning department grant permission, Sonia’s Little Stars Cafe will install a new kitchen to serve sandwiches, toastie and hot and cold drinks.
The main retail area would become a play area with tables and seating.
It will include a baby zone, decorated in black and white, in a quiet area for young babies who cannot yet see a full spectrum of colours.
Focusing on black and white shapes helps them strengthen their eyesight and encourage early eye-tracking skills.
Mrs Sprake also intends to open up the space to older children in the evening, with game nights, craft nights and new skill workshops on the agenda.
If approved, she hopes to have the cafe open before Christmas.
Almost Home Dog Rescue is a dog rescue charity based on Ruthin Road in Mold. It closed its shop in Buckley, where the public could make donations and help raise funds for the charity, in January this year.
The charity is still active helping to rehome dogs in need across Flintshire.
