Ok, so you’ve heard us say this before (and yes they didn’t turn up) the Battle of Britain memorial flight (BBMF) is due over Hawarden today 20th September, fly past time was originally quoted as being 14:36 however that looks to have been revised due to weather, based on the old schedule the flyover should happen at 15:46

We’ve ‘heard’ (seen on twitter) the Spitfire, Hurricane and of course the mighty Lancaster will do a low pass over Hawarden airfield on Saturday, infact we ‘hear’ two Lancasters will be in the BBMF fly over based on posts (and comments) on BBMF’s Facebook page: Screenshot from 2014-09-19 21:27:43 The UK based Lancaster, PA474 stationed at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire was built at Vickers Broughton in 1945, ‘she’ will be joined by the worlds only other airworthy Lancaster flown by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, which has been over in the UK for a series of events during the Summer – of course there are no guarantees we will see them, weather plays a significant part! The Battle of Britain memorial flight will pass over Hawarden at approximately 14:36 en route to Southport airshow.

You can track the progress of the planes using the map below, the Hurricane and Spitfire are fitted with a FLARM Collision Avoidance System.

Gliding Clubs have exploited the FLARM system by establishing ground stations to monitor the flights of their aircraft and those fitted with FLARM,these ground stations automatically feed data to a website (www.cunimb.fr/live ) that provides a ‘live’ flight tracker for FLARM equipped aircraft – more here
