The family of Mathew Cassidy, 19, murdered in Connah’s Quay have paid a moving tribute to a young man “in love with life.”

The teenager died from stab wounds on May 29 at an address in Bethel Place Connah’s Quay.

Matthew’s family said;

This is a tragic and devastating loss which will forever be etched in our hearts and on our minds.

Matthew was a funny, caring, thoughtful and loving son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin to his family and he will be remembered as someone who was always fiercely loyal to those that mattered to him.

Matthew was just starting out on a career in construction and loved nothing more than to be busy. Working hard and being useful made him happy and gave him a sense of pride in going out and earning the things he wanted.

He had a big heart and loved all of his family, but none more so than his young cousin. Matthew and his cousin would spend hours playing games, making up stories and playing together with toys making each other laugh. When Matthew and his cousin played together Matthew’s face would light up with a big smile. The love was obvious for all to see.

He was a massive fan of music and attending music festivals with his friends. There would always be some music being played out of his bedroom and the passion and vibrancy of a young man in love with life rippled outwards for all to see and hear.

Matthew will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Family and friends alike will forever have a massive part of our lives missing. Matthew is irreplaceable. We only hope that through the passage of time our hearts will heal and we can look back on Matthew’s short life and be thankful for the time that we got to spend with this wonderful young man who is now safe in the arms of his dearly departed grandparents.

We are extremely grateful and would like to pay tribute to the Police for all their hard work in this case. We will be forever grateful for the professionalism and support they have shown us at this difficult time.

We now have the difficult job of rebuilding our lives without Matthew. We will honour him and keep his memory alive with the love in our hearts that he gave to us.

Police were called to an address at Bethel Place shortly before 8pm on Monday, May 29 following reports of a serious incident.

Despite the efforts of paramedics and police officers, Matthew was pronounced dead at the scene.

David John Woods, aged 19 and from Liverpool was arrested and charged with Matthews murder, he appeared before magistrates in Mold on Monday and is set to go on trial in November.

North Wales Police say that two other men who were being held on suspicion of murder have been released pending further investigation.

Det Supt Iestyn Davies said;
