Hope railway station closed as police investigate sex assault

Update: Hope railway station was closed in the early hours of Friday 31 October as British Transport Police investigated a report of a sexual assault.
In a statement, BTP said officers were contacted by colleagues from North Wales Police after a report of a sexual assault that occurred at Hope railway station on Thursday 30 October. British Transport Police officers are now investigating.
Detective Sergeant Rebecca Haywood said: “We are providing specialist support to the victim while our enquiries are ongoing. We are reviewing CCTV, speaking to local people and conducting enquiries at the station.
“We’re grateful for local people’s patience while this important work is conducted. I ask anyone who may have been at the station or in the vicinity between 7pm and 11pm on Thursday 30 October and saw anything suspicious to contact us as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information that could assist police should text BTP on 61016 using the reference 62 of 31 October.
Earlier report: Train services through Hope in Flintshire have been disrupted due to emergency services attending an incident at the station.
National Rail said all routes through the station are affected, with disruption expected until 1pm on Friday 31 October.
Transport for Wales confirmed that trains between Wrexham and Bidston are unable to call at Hope in either direction until further notice.
A spokesperson said replacement road transport is being arranged to assist passengers.
National Rail posted on social media: “Trains are unable to call at #Hope (Flintshire) due to the emergency services dealing with an incident. Any passengers travelling to or from Hope should travel to Caergwrle for a rail replacement shuttle service. Bus will depart half hourly on XX:00 and XX:30 (operated by Pats Coaches).”
Passengers are advised to check live travel updates before starting their journey.
