Rhug Estate takes precautions after local bird flu alert

Rhug Estate in Denbighshire has confirmed there is no outbreak of avian influenza (bird flu) on its premises, despite reports of cases in the local area.
As a precaution, the estate has temporarily closed its two farm walks to protect staff, visitors and livestock. The closures will remain in place until further notice.
In a statement, Rhug Estate said: “At Rhug Estate, we’re committed to the health and welfare of our livestock, local communities, and the environment. Recently, we have been made aware of a potential outbreak of Avian Influenza (bird flu) in our locality. We want to assure the public that we are taking all necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of this situation.”
The estate is working closely with veterinary authorities to monitor developments and implement measures aimed at preventing the spread of the virus.
“These measures include enhanced surveillance of our flocks, stringent biosecurity protocols, and immediate reporting of any suspicious cases to relevant authorities,” the statement added.
Local bird keepers and residents are being urged to remain alert and report any signs of illness in birds to the Animal and Plant Health Agency or local veterinary services.
“We also advise the public to stay informed by following updates from public health authorities and to avoid handling wild birds. Proper hygiene and biosecurity measures are essential in preventing the spread of the virus.”
The estate said it would continue to provide updates and reiterated its commitment to public safety and animal welfare.
Rhug Estate is based near Corwen and operates as an organic farm and visitor attraction.
