Police dog Bryn has been praised after assisting North Wales Police officers in an area search in North Flintshire.

Bryn and his handler were called out to help the local neighbourhood policing team after a man was suspected of discarding items before being detained.

In a post on social media, NWP North Flintshire said:

“Who’s a good boy? Bryn is a good boy! He and his handler turfed out to assist NPT with an area search after a male was suspected to have discarded items prior to being detained. He earned himself a proper belly rub!”

The force said Bryn’s efforts helped officers locate and recover items during the operation.

North Wales Police’s dog section regularly supports local policing teams across Flintshire with searches, tracking and evidence recovery, playing a vital role in frontline operations.

Charity calendar launched to support retired police dogs

Away from the frontline, North Wales Police dogs are also taking centre stage in a new 2026 charity calendar created to raise funds for retired police dogs.

The calendar has been produced by Paws Off Duty, a charity founded in 2015 by PC Jackie Edwards of North Wales Police, which helps cover vet and welfare costs once the animals leave active service.

Police dogs are funded by the force during their working lives, but support ends when they retire, usually between eight and ten years of age. Handlers or new owners then cover ongoing costs, which can be high for older dogs.

The Paws Off Duty 2026 Calendar, released on 24 October, features serving and retired police dogs from across the force, with each month highlighting a different K9 and the vital work they carry out — from searching for missing people to supporting armed operations.

PC Jackie Edwards said:
“Every penny goes towards supporting our retired K9s, who have dedicated their lives to protecting our communities. I hope people will show their appreciation by purchasing a calendar, it really does make a difference.

“I’d like to thank PC Conway who has been instrumental in designing the calendar and bringing it to life, she’s done a fantastic job. I’d also like to thank our friends at Farm and Pet Place for their invaluable support. We are extremely grateful for their continued assistance.”

The calendars, priced at £10, are available from Farm and Pet Place stores and online.

All proceeds go directly to Paws Off Duty to help retired police dogs enjoy the comfortable retirement they deserve after years of service.
