Flintshire MSs welcome £1 bus fare scheme for children across Wales

Flintshire Members of the Senedd Hannah Blythyn and Jack Sargeant have welcomed the Welsh Government’s extension of its £1 bus fare offer to children across Wales.
From 3 November, children aged 5 to 15 will be able to travel on participating bus services for just £1 per journey.
The initiative builds on the successful rollout of £1 fares for 16–21-year-olds introduced in September and forms part of the Welsh Labour Government’s commitment to making public transport more affordable and accessible for young people.
Hannah Blythyn MS said: “Making it easier for younger people to get to and from places locally is an issue that was raised by students from across the county at our annual Democracy and Action Day. So, it’s great to see further action towards fairer public transport that will make a real difference for children and young people.”
Jack Sargeant MS said: “This is a fantastic step forward for families across Wales. Affordable transport is key to ensuring children can access education, leisure, and community activities.”
The extended scheme is supported by a £7 million investment from the Welsh Labour Government. It complements broader efforts to reduce carbon emissions, tackle poverty, and encourage lifelong public transport habits.
Jack added: “I’m proud to support a policy that puts young people first. Whether it’s getting to school, visiting friends, or exploring their communities, this scheme will make a real difference to everyday lives.”
Families are encouraged to check with local bus operators for participation details and to plan ahead for the scheme’s launch on 3 November.
