MM Packaging Deeside has completed production of over 15 million advent calendar packs for some of the UK’s biggest confectionery brands and retailers, marking a record festive season for the packaging manufacturer.

The company, a specialist in cartonboard packaging, has seen strong demand from the confectionery sector as brands expand their Christmas ranges to capture early festive spending.

Advent calendars have become a major seasonal driver for confectionery sales, with the UK Christmas confectionery market valued at £853 million last year, up £88 million on 2023.

Julian Freeman, MM Packaging Deeside Managing Director, said: “It’s been encouraging to see the levels of demand in the run up to this Christmas. Shipping out 15 million packs takes hard work, dedication and expertise. Our Deeside team has demonstrated its abilities, and we are proud of the results.

“Confectionery packaging is where we excel, allowing MM Packaging’s expertise in manufacturing and pack development. Brands are driving the business to innovate, and the areas of focus continue to be around material use as well as maintaining the integrity of the pack.”

The Deeside factory has established a reputation for large-scale seasonal turnaround. Earlier this year, the business produced 100 million Easter egg packs for leading brands.

Julian added: “Our ability to handle such numbers is testament to our skills and experience. Whether it’s pack structure or graphical knowhow, we give our customers a clear understanding on what’s possible and achievable in cartonboard packaging.

“We have a fantastic mix of skills and experience within our design team. Structural and graphical knowhow benefits our customers and gives them a great steer on what is possible, pushing the boundaries in cartonboard development and innovative packaging.”
