Big win for Broughton as Airbus lands huge Vietjet deal

Airbus’s Broughton site is set for a major boost after Vietnamese airline Vietjet announced an order for 100 new A321neo aircraft, with the wings for each plane to be built at the company’s factory in Flintshire.
The deal, announced today (30 October) following a meeting between Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Vietnam’s General Secretary, marks a major investment in the UK’s aerospace sector and is expected to support thousands of skilled jobs nationwide.
The A321neo wings are designed at Airbus’s Filton site near Bristol and built at its Broughton factory, which employs thousands of people and plays a central role in Airbus’s global single-aisle production.
The announcement highlights Broughton’s continued importance to Airbus as the company ramps up A320 Family production to 75 aircraft per month by 2027.
The site’s former A380 wing assembly building has been converted to support increased output for the A320 programme.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the Vietjet order “shows that British innovation continues to be at the forefront in connecting the world,” adding that it will create “thousands of high-skilled jobs, boost our economy, and deliver real benefits for working people across the UK.”
In total, the deal supports Airbus’s 79,000-strong UK supply chain and its 12,000 employees, with the company contributing an estimated £5.3 billion to the economy each year.
Vietjet also confirmed a further deal with Rolls-Royce for 92 Trent 7000 engines to be manufactured in the UK for use on 40 A330neo aircraft, adding to the investment in British aerospace manufacturing.
The government said the partnership reflects the UK’s continuing strength in aviation and its ability to attract global investment, backed by ongoing research and development programmes.
