An £18 million housing development in Buckley will deliver 83 affordable, energy-efficient homes for local families as part of a major partnership between ClwydAlyn, Castle Green Partnerships, Flintshire County Council and the Welsh Government.

The Well Street development will include a mix of modern two-, three- and four-bedroom family houses, two-bedroom bungalows, and one-bedroom apartments. Two of the new homes will be purpose-built adapted bungalows designed for residents with accessibility needs.

Homes will be allocated through the SARTH Housing Register and Tai Teg, prioritising local families and individuals.

The development aims to keep energy costs low while reducing carbon emissions. Each property will include air source heat pumps, solar panels, electric car charging facilities, and layouts designed to maximise natural daylight and solar gain.

Penny Storr, Head of Development and Growth at ClwydAlyn, said:

“We are proud to be developing these homes in Buckley, which will provide 83 families and individuals from the local area, with modern, affordable and safe homes.

“Working with trusted construction partner Castle Green Homes Ltd in collaboration with Flintshire County Council and Welsh Government, this development is expected to reach completion by Summer 2027. And we are looking forward to welcoming new residents into the first phase of the development by Spring 2026.”

Marj Cooper, Housing Strategy Manager at Flintshire County Council, said:

“We were very pleased to attend the recent event at Well Street, Buckley to celebrate the ongoing development. It is great to see the good progress being made towards developing additional affordable, modern new homes in Flintshire.”

Buckley councillor Cllr Rathbone added:

“This venture will offer hope for those people of Buckley waiting for homes within their own community, either by the option of buying or through ClwydAlyn housing.”

Eoin O’Donnell, Partnerships Director at Castle Green, said:

“We are delighted to build our third site in Flintshire in partnership with ClwydAlyn, with whom we enjoy an excellent working relationship. We are a North Wales company, and we are proud to provide well-designed, fuel-efficient affordable homes to local people. There has never been a greater need for affordable housing and we aim to build many more such developments with ClwydAlyn in the coming years and in doing so provide excellent career opportunities in the communities in which we work.”

All homes at Well Street will meet or exceed Welsh Government Housing Quality Standards, Development Quality Requirements, and Lifetime Homes Standards.

Completion of the full development is expected by summer 2027, with the first homes ready for occupation in spring 2026.
