Cheshire and North Wales Police Dog Unit has announced the passing of retired police dog (RPD) Thor, who served the force for seven years before retiring in 2020.

Thor joined the force in 2013 and was partnered with PC Lomas.

The pair were first licensed together in April of that year.

During his career, Thor played a key role in tracking suspects, locating missing people, and working as part of a Firearms Support Dog Team.

He was also featured in an episode of the BBC programme Caught Red Handed after successfully tracking two burglary suspects.

Thor retired at the age of 10 and spent his final years with his handler’s family. In a tribute, the force said:

“He had a fantastic retirement with his handler and family, being spoilt rotten, and he will be missed by us all.”

Thor’s passing has been met with tributes on social media from members of the public.
