Flintshire County Council has launched a digital public consultation survey, inviting local people to help shape the future of Buckley as part of the town’s Place Making Plan.

The consultation follows an initial phase in 2023, where over 2,300 responses were gathered on public perceptions of Buckley.

The findings have contributed to the development of a draft Place Making Plan, which is now available for public review before it is considered for adoption by the council and external partners.

Place Making is a process taking place across town centres in Wales to set a vision for the future and identify activities that would benefit the area, its residents, and local organisations.

The information gathered through the process informs future priorities for the town, detailed in a plan that outlines actions to be undertaken over the next five to ten years by various stakeholders to bring about positive change.

The initiative is funded through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and aims to identify key priorities for the town’s development.

The finalised plan will be crucial in securing future Welsh Government investment for town centre regeneration projects.

Councillor Chris Dolphin, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Economy, highlighted the importance of these plans:

“As with a lot of towns across the country, Flintshire’s high streets have changed considerably over recent years due to changes in shopping habits and the covid-19 pandemic.

“It is important that we continue with the development of Place Making Plans for towns across Flintshire as they are key to attracting future investment projects which will bring positive impacts to local people and our local economy.”

By developing Place Making Plans, the Welsh Government hopes that local authorities and their partners will take a more coordinated approach to improving town centres, identifying investment opportunities, and enhancing the area for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The Place Making Plan for Buckley will set out a long-term vision, outlining ways to enhance the town’s vibrancy and appeal while considering the needs of those who live, work, and visit.

The process also encourages greater collaboration between local authorities, businesses, and the community to implement improvements effectively.

Residents, workers, and visitors to Buckley can participate in the online survey from 21 February 2025 until 10 March 2025 at: www.givemyview.com/placemakinginflintshire/surveys/6791243d61e2a399f47b79b1.

Following the digital consultation, in-person sessions will be held in Buckley, with details to be announced soon.
