Hope and Caergwrle are among the Flintshire villages named in a £6.8 million gas pipe upgrade programme announced by Wales and West Utilities for North Wales over the next 12 months.

Llay Village, on the Wrexham side of the county boundary, is also named in the regional list.

The gas emergency and pipeline service said the programme would replace more than 42 kilometres of gas main across six council areas: Wrexham, Flintshire, Denbighshire, Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.

Other named project locations include Rhyl, Ruthin, Denbigh, St Asaph, Llangollen, Bethesda, Porthmadog, Tywyn Meironydd, Llangefni and Welshpool.

Wales and West Utilities did not publish a Flintshire-specific spend figure or start dates for individual projects.

The company said it would work with local authorities to plan projects and manage any traffic measures needed during the works.

Customers in the named villages can check the company’s project locator at www.wwutilities.co.uk/gas-pipe-upgrade-projects/ for area-specific information as schemes are scheduled.

Adam Smith, who is managing the programme for Wales and West Utilities, said:

“We’re investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve across North Wales. We’ll continue to work closely with local authorities and keep communities informed as projects are planned and delivered.”

“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient network that people rely on every day.”

“This investment will not only maintain today’s supply but also prepare the network to transport greener gases in the future.”

Hope falls within the Hope ward on Flintshire County Council, represented by Cllr Gladys Healey for Labour.

Caergwrle is represented on Flintshire County Council by Cllr David Healey, also Labour.

Wales and West Utilities does not sell gas.

It transports gas through an underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes, serving over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England.

The company said anyone who smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999.

What to expect from the works is published at www.wwutilities.co.uk/services/gas-pipe-upgrades/.
