Firefighters were called to a large fire at a waste sorting site on Liverpool Road, Chester, on Wednesday evening.

The incident, which began at around 8.20pm, saw a significant emergency response, with fire engines from Chester, Runcorn, Powey Lane, along with an aerial ladder platform from Chester.

Two fire engines from Deeside were also in attendance.

Crews worked to establish water supplies and tackled the fire externally while assessing the site using the aerial platform.

By 9.45pm the response had been scaled down to two fire engines and the aerial ladder platform, with firefighters having extinguished the main seat of the fire. Waste was removed from the area to prevent further spread.

The aerial platform was released just before 10pm, and an investigation into the cause of the fire began. A main jet remained in use to dampen down the site.

A final update on the incident is expected in the morning.
