Ewloe roundabout disruption to continue into mid-July, council confirms

Months of disruption at the Ewloe and St David’s roundabouts will continue into mid-July after Flintshire County Council confirmed an overrun on its active travel works programme.
The £900,000 scheme, which began on 25 January, is installing new pedestrian crossings on the A494 Ewloe slip roads, widened footways under the A494, and a Dutch-style redesign of the St David’s roundabout where vehicles will give way to pedestrians and cyclists at parallel crossings.
The works were originally due to be complete by mid-May.
The scheme was designed with the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA), is being delivered by Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK, and is funded by Flintshire County Council and the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Fund.
In a statement, the council said the programme had been extended because of on-site engineering difficulties, but did not say what they involved.
The council said: “Due to on-site engineering difficulties, there will be an extension to the programme, with anticipated completion now scheduled for mid-July.”
It also said: “Every effort is being made to minimise disruption and complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.”
The council thanked the public “for their continued patience and cooperation”.
Work at both junctions has involved phased day and night working, road closures and repeated changes to traffic management since the scheme began in January.
Cllr Helen Brown, who represents Hawarden: Aston for Reform UK, has called the works a “roundabout of chaos” on social media.
She said she met Streetscene officials after a “huge number of concerns and complaints” from residents.
