Cold snap gives way to mild, wet, and windy weather across UK

The UK is set for a shift to milder but unsettled weather later this week, with temperatures possibly reaching 16°C by Thursday.
Cold air will continue to dominate at the start of the week, with sub-zero temperatures expected overnight in many areas.
Snow and ice warnings are in place for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland on Tuesday, with hazardous travel conditions expected.
Some lower-lying areas could see a couple of centimetres of snow, while higher ground may see up to 5cm.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tony Wisson said: “Milder but unsettled conditions are moving in from the Atlantic later this week.
“As the week goes on, we’re set to experience wetter conditions with showers and bands of rain moving in from the Atlantic. Western hills will see the highest rainfall totals, with 75-100mm possible here, building up from Wednesday to Friday.”
Despite the rain, there will be some brighter and sunnier spells in between, and the milder temperatures will feel noticeably spring-like compared to recent conditions.
The unsettled weather is expected to continue into the weekend, with showers, occasional sunshine, and strong winds in coastal areas.
