Welsh folk singer-songwriter Eve Goodman is due to perform at Caffi Isa in Mynydd Isa as part of this year’s Independent Venue Week.

The performance is scheduled for Monday 26 January, with doors opening at 7pm. Support on the night will come from Grace Elizabeth Harvey.

Goodman, who writes and performs in both English and Welsh, has been named Welsh Ambassador for Independent Venue Week, a UK-wide initiative celebrating independent music and arts venues and the people who run them.

Independent Venue Week runs for seven days and highlights the role of small, grassroots venues in supporting emerging artists and sustaining local music scenes. Venues across Wales are taking part, with shows planned in towns and cities in North, South and West Wales.

One of Goodman’s Welsh dates will take place at Caffi Isa, an arts and community venue based in Mynydd Isa .

Opened in 2016, the venue took over a former library building from Flintshire County Council and now hosts a programme of live music, arts and community events.

Founder Sara Parker said: “We have slowly developed a programme of acoustic indie, traditional and folk music which works beautifully in the former library space; tiny desk style bookshelves and seated gigs with twinkly lights.

“As an incomer to Mold twenty-years-ago, it seemed to me that venues for songwriters and bands creating their own sound are few. We are just down the road from Buckley Tivoli which hosts loads of diverse gigs, but is larger than a start out band would be able to fill.

“We are about filling a gap and creating a mindset of trying new music. We try to facilitate whatever we can as long as it is original.”

Independent Venue Week runs from 26 January to 1 February.
