Train fares on Transport for Wales services held at current prices until 2027

All fares on Transport for Wales rail services will be frozen at their current prices for 12 months from 1 March.
The freeze covers advance single tickets, return tickets and TfW’s tap in, tap out pay as you go system.
First Minister Eluned Morgan announced the freeze on the eve of St David’s Day, describing it as “one of the most generous offers on rail fares since the start of devolution.”
The tap in, tap out system, which TfW says was the first of its kind outside London and southeast England, has already been operating across southeast Wales.
More than 3 million journeys in southeast Wales have been made using it in the past year, according to the Welsh Government.
The First Minister said the rollout of tap in, tap out to north Wales is planned, though no date or station list has been confirmed.
Eluned Morgan said: “I am delighted that all rail fares on TfW are going to stay at their current price for the next year.
“This gives certainty to passengers at a time when many are struggling with the cost of living.”
She added: “Freezing the cost of fares is our latest step in making travelling by train more attractive and cheaper.”
The Welsh Government has spent £1.1bn on the Core Valleys Lines and South Wales Metro and £800m on new trains which it says can carry 80% more passengers.
Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales Ken Skates said: “This is fantastic news for passengers.
“Alongside new trains, better services and a generational investment in Welsh rail, this fare freeze complements our action to deliver more affordable bus fares and the young person’s fare cap.”
