Chester Road East in Shotton will move to night-time convoy working from 18 March as Flintshire County Council begins the resurfacing phase of its ongoing highway improvement scheme.

The works cover the stretch from Shotton Lane to the junction with Nelson Street near the Railway Bridge.

Convoy working will run between 7pm and 7am each night throughout the two-week programme.

Full carriageway resurfacing is currently scheduled to begin on 24 March and run for three nights.

That phase will include removal of the existing road surface and ironworks adjustments, covering the replacement and adjustment of covers and gulleys.

Traffic signal loop cutting is scheduled for the weekend of 27 and 28 March.

Two further nights of road marking are planned after that.

Flintshire County Council’s contractor, Alun Griffiths Ltd, will control vehicular access to properties and businesses on the affected stretch throughout the works.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, but the council warns there may be short periods when vehicle access to individual properties or businesses is not possible, particularly during asphalt laying and cooling.

Traffic Officers will be on site throughout.

Parking on the closed sections will not be permitted during working hours, and residents are asked to move vehicles before 19:00 on nights when works are taking place.

The night-time programme follows work already under way in the Chester Close area, where kerb alignments are being adjusted to create right-turn pockets and improve junction efficiency.

Those works are due to continue until the resurfacing phase begins in the week of 16 March.

The council has also confirmed that signal head configuration at the traffic signals on the site has been changed to allow greater manual control of traffic movements as the scheme progresses.

Advance warning signs will be installed before night-time convoy working begins, with a letter drop planned for immediately affected properties.
All dates are subject to change in the event of adverse weather or unexpected site conditions.
