Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses after spray paint was daubed on Chester City Walls near King Charles Tower on Monday afternoon.

Officers received a 999 call at just after 4.45pm on 9 March from a member of the public who reported seeing four females spray painting on the section of walls between the Cathedral and Northgate.

The incident is believed to have taken place between 4.30pm and 5pm.

Chester’s city walls are a Scheduled Monument and World Heritage Site, meaning they carry strict legal protections.

Cheshire Police said spraying paint on the historic stonework causes damage and is costly to remove, describing the incident as a heritage crime.

Anyone who was in the area and saw anything is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number IML-2285695.
