Padeswood workers raise £3,000 for Wales Air Ambulance

Workers at Heidelberg Materials UK in Padeswood have donated £3,000 to the Wales Air Ambulance following a Christmas raffle.
The company, which operates a cement works near Mold, has supported the charity since 2014 and has raised £15,600 over that period.
The latest fundraiser was organised by Dereth Holland, who gathered donated prizes and sold tickets to employees and contractors on site.
Prizes included a 43-inch TV, a £100 Amazon voucher, theatre tickets, a Ninja dual air fryer, art sets, hampers, a coffee maker and Regatta jackets.
Employees also applied for match funding from the company’s head office, which contributed an additional £2,000 to the cause.
Dereth said: “The £15,600 we’ve raised is fantastic, especially for such a worthwhile cause.
“It is a vital service that I believe we cannot do without and it has helped so many people and saved lives.
“I feel the charity should have more government backing with funds to support the valuable service it offers in the community.”
The Wales Air Ambulance relies on public donations to raise £13 million each year to keep its helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.
Its crews are supplied by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service, which provides NHS consultants and critical care practitioners trained to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and carry out minor operations at the scene of an incident.
Debra Sima, Wales Air Ambulance Regional Fundraising Manager for North East Wales, said: “We are so grateful to everyone at Heidelberg Materials UK for continuing to support our lifesaving service.
“The raffle had wonderful prizes and was a huge success.
“To date the company has raised an incredible £15,600 since 2014.
“Fundraisers like this one will help us to continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us the most.”
