North Wales Police warn of 999 misuse after 35 calls from single number in Flintshire on Saturday

One number called 999 thirty-five times in a single day across north Flintshire, North Wales Police has revealed, as the force logged 62 calls for service in 24 hours with five arrests made overnight.
The figures were published in a morning update on social media by the force’s North Flintshire team.
The 35 calls came from a single number on Saturday and appeared to be pocket dials. They arrived fast enough that call handlers could not return each call before the next one rang in.
North Wales Police said: “If you call 999 by accident, just explain it was an accident and the job can be closed. If you hang up the call and don’t explain we’ll keep calling you until we can figure out everything is ok and eventually it will lead to officers attending your address to ascertain your welfare.”
The force also reminded the public that pressing 55 during a 999 call alerts the handler to a silent call, allowing resources to be directed without the caller needing to speak.

A separate warning was issued over hoax calls. North Wales Police said one person would face consequences after making a hoax call to the fire service on Saturday night, adding: “If you make hoax calls, you may be subject to prosecution or other police action.” No further details were given.
Of the five arrests in the 24-hour period, three were for assault, one for drink driving and one for breach of the peace.
Thirteen of the 62 calls were priority incidents attended on blue lights and sirens. Seven domestic crime incidents were recorded, along with four concern for safety incidents and one anti-social behaviour incident. No burglaries or hate-related incidents were reported.
Thirty-one incidents carried over to the force system for write-up and five have so far been recorded as crimes.
Police dog Keo, a detection dog, was also highlighted in the update after assisting traffic officers with a vehicle search.
