Love really is in the air at this Chester arcade

A new love-themed installation has been unveiled at Eastgate Square, transforming one of Chester’s most recognisable spaces with a striking burst of colour.
From 9 February until 15 March, visitors to St Michael’s Arcade can walk beneath 28 oversized pink hearts suspended above the arcade.
The installation has been designed to bring a playful and uplifting feel to the city centre during the colder weeks of the year, celebrating love in all its forms, from Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day to everyday moments.
Set against the historic architecture of the arcade, the display follows a strong public response to Eastgate Square’s Christmas decorations in 2025, which attracted thousands of visitors stopping to take photos.
The hearts installation also coincides with the opening of H Beauty at Eastgate Square on 12 February and forms part of a wider programme of improvements across the site. These include new seating areas, refreshed lighting and planting, and the launch of a large digital screen in The Square.
Visitors are being encouraged to share photos beneath the display, with Eastgate Square also inviting couples planning proposals to contact the team for support in creating a memorable moment.
Alongside the installation, shoppers and visitors are being invited to share their love stories as part of a Valentine’s activity. A curated selection will be shown on the new big screen, with a favourite story receiving a ring from luxury jeweller Chisholm Hunter.
Gary Martin, Director at Martin Property Group, said:
“Seasonal installations like this play an important role in shaping how people experience the city centre. This display reflects our continued investment in Eastgate Square as a place to spend time, not just shop, enhancing the historic setting while creating moments that feel relevant, welcoming and memorable.”
Lisa Rogers, Centre Manager at Eastgate Square, said:
“St. Michael’s Arcade is one of Chester’s most beautiful spaces, and we wanted to do something that felt joyful and light-hearted.
“After the response we had to our Christmas decorations last year, it felt right to bring another moment like this into the city, something that makes people smile, stop for a photo, or simply enjoy being here.”
The installation will remain in place until 15 March.
