Investment Zone grants open to manufacturers in Flintshire

Two multi-million pound grant schemes for manufacturing businesses in Flintshire and Wrexham have launched today, offering financial support to small and medium-sized firms in the region.
The schemes, run separately by Flintshire County Council and Wrexham County Borough Council, are part of the new Flintshire and Wrexham Investment Zone. The Investment Zone is backed by the UK Government and Welsh Government and is co-ordinated by Ambition North Wales.
Both councils will offer grants ranging from £5,000 to £100,000, with businesses required to provide at least 30 per cent match funding. The funding is open to manufacturing firms operating within each council’s local authority area.
Applications open on Monday 2 February. Successful businesses will be able to use the funding for capital equipment purchases, accreditation and certification to improve supply chain opportunities, and property adaptations or green site modifications to support more sustainable operations.
Across Flintshire and Wrexham, the two schemes will allocate a total of £6 million in grants over the next three years.
Councillor Dave Hughes, Leader of Flintshire County Council, said: “The Investment Zone is a hugely positive step for Flintshire and Wrexham, and will give us a platform to attract new investment to the region, helping to create jobs and inspire the next generation of businesses leaders and skilled workers.
“The launch of these grants shows the kind of opportunities the Investment Zone will bring, and I hope as many local businesses as possible will apply.”
Councillor Mark Pritchard, Leader of Wrexham Council and Chair of Ambition North Wales, said: “The advanced manufacturing sector is crucial to our economy, and a lot of world-class manufacturers are already based here.
“We now need to build on this and show that we’re a true powerhouse for advanced industry in Wales, and I hope that local firms take advantage of these grants. This is a golden opportunity for the sector.”
Small and medium-sized enterprises are defined as businesses employing fewer than 250 people. While Flintshire and Wrexham are home to a number of major global employers, SMEs account for 97.4 per cent of all businesses across the two counties and are viewed as central to the future growth of advanced manufacturing in North East Wales.
The Flintshire and Wrexham Investment Zone was announced in the Chancellor’s Autumn Budget statement in November 2025. It is a partnership involving the UK Government, Welsh Government, North Wales Corporate Joint Committee, Flintshire County Council and Wrexham County Borough Council.
The initial 10-year programme is expected to secure £160 million of revenue and capital funding, support the creation of 6,000 new jobs and attract £1 billion of private sector investment into advanced manufacturing across Flintshire and Wrexham.
