Hope House Hospice’s Mold charity shop to close amid falling sales

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Hope House Hospice has announced the closure of its charity shop in Mold town centre

The organisation, which provides care and support to children with life-threatening conditions and their families, said the decision has been taken due to falling sales.

The store, which opened on High Street in 2022, will close its doors for good later this week on May 2.

Head of Retail Lindy Welch-Smart said the decision had not been taken lightly.

“Our staff and volunteers have worked incredibly hard to raise vital funds for local children and families, but falling sales mean the shop is unfortunately no longer viable,” explained Lindy.

“We would like to thank our team and everyone in the community who has supported the shop over the past four years.”

The charity supports hundreds of children and families from across North and Mid Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire, including many in the Mold area. Care services will not be affected by the shop closure.

Most of the £10 million needed every year to provide care to children and families via the charity’s two hospices – Hope House in Oswestry and Ty Gobaith in Conwy – is raised through fundraising in local communities and through the charity’s other 13 shops spread across the region.

Director of Income Generation Simi Epstein added: “Our hospices rely heavily on fundraising and income from our shops to support local children with life-threatening conditions to live their best life. We cannot justify continuing to run a shop that is commercially unviable.

“The people of Mold have shown us great kindness, and we are truly grateful. While our shop will no longer be in the town, our commitment to supporting local children and families remains unchanged.

“Ongoing community support, including fundraising, playing our Lottery and donating, helps ensure we can be here for every child and family who needs us.”

The charity’s nearby shops in Flint and Wrexham will continue to welcome customers and donations. To find out more about how to get involved and support local children, visit hopehouse.org.uk.
