Grade II-listed North Wales police station converted to holiday lets goes on market

A converted Victorian police station and court house in Corwen are on the market for £610,000.
The Grade II-listed buildings in the centre of the town were originally built in 1871 as a police station with four cells, a constable’s apartment and a justices’ room.
The first tenant was Sergeant Hugh Williams, who lived in the quarters with his wife and 10 children.

Owner Ian Clarke bought the properties more than four years ago and converted them into holiday lets and residential accommodation.
The Old Police Station is now a four-bedroom home with original features including the vaulted cell corridor, barred gates and cell rooms retained within the conversion.
The Court House, formerly the town’s county court, has been converted into a two-bedroom home with a double-height lounge, exposed beams and full-height windows.

Both properties have wood-burning stoves and underfloor heating.
The former prisoner exercise yard is now a stone-walled courtyard with a hot tub and barbecue fireplace.
Clarke, who retired from a building business in the Midlands, moved to Corwen to pursue white water kayaking on the River Dee.
He said the holiday let business generates a six-figure annual income.

“I did consider selling just the Old Police Station and continuing to live in The Court House, but you can’t sell one without the other,” he said.
“I have made so many friends here that I plan to stay in the area.”
The properties are being marketed by Halls estate agents in Oswestry.

Corwen sits within the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 22 miles from both Wrexham and Oswestry.
The site for the original police station was acquired in 1869, and Corwen was known as a major stopping point on the drover roads and stagecoach route between Holyhead and London
