Nineteen young Scouts and two adult volunteers from across Flintshire, Wrexham and Denbighshire have been selected by Scouts Cymru to represent Wales as part of the UK Contingent at the World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027.

They will join 40,000 Scouts from more than 150 countries for the international gathering, which marks 120 years of Scouting under the theme “Bravely”.

The event, held near Gdańsk on the Baltic Sea, will focus on adventure, global citizenship, leadership, wellbeing and environmental responsibility.

The young people’s selection journey began in early November at a rain-soaked camp in South Wales, where they faced a weekend of teamwork, resilience and communication challenges.

Despite the weather, leaders said the participants showed enthusiasm and determination throughout.

Following the selection event, the nineteen Scouts from the Clwyd area were confirmed as members of the two Welsh units attending the Jamboree.

Over the next 18 months they will take part in camps, fundraising, and online sessions to build their teamwork and prepare for the trip.

Jay Livingstone of Blaze Explorers, Flintshire, said: “I hope to share my experiences at the event to influence other young people, such as those currently in the Beavers group which I support, to continue their journey through scouting and, hopefully, to take part in a World Scout Jamboree when they are older.”

Harry Briffa-Whitham of Wrexham commented: “I applied for the World Scout Jamboree because it is an amazing opportunity to learn about different cultures and meet new people. I like to explore new places and I am looking forward to the adventure!”

Jacob Jones, District Lead for the Vale of Clwyd, said he is “really excited to ‘bravely’ attend the World Scout Jamboree in Poland as one of the Unit Leaders”. He added that this will be his first international event with Scouts and hopes to show that “anything is possible with a bit of determination and enthusiasm”.

Fellow Unit Leader Dan Campbell said: “Our focus in Clwyd is simple, to support young people and give them every opportunity to grow their skills for life. The Jamboree allows Scouts from all over Clwyd to experience the very best of Scouting on a global stage. Leading Unit 4 for Wales is a privilege and an exciting adventure.”
