Flintshire cycle network to get barrier removals after majority of consultation responses backed the plan

Flintshire County Council is to begin removing barriers on the Flintshire Cycle Network next week, following a public consultation in which the majority of respondents backed the proposals.
The work is funded through the Transport for Wales Active Travel Grant.
Council officers reviewed responses gathered during the consultation, which asked residents and stakeholders for their views on proposals to improve accessibility across sections of the network.
Most responses supported removing a number of existing barriers to make routes more accessible.
The council has not specified how many barriers will be removed or identified which locations are affected.
The improvements are intended to make the network easier to use for cyclists, pedestrians, wheelchair users, people with pushchairs and other active travel users.
Not all consultation responses aligned with the council’s initial recommendations.
Those locations are being reviewed further, with the council saying future decisions will take account of accessibility, safety and local concerns.
The council said it is continuing to finalise the full consultation feedback and will provide further updates once that review is complete.
Councillor Glyn Banks, Cabinet Member for Waste and Transportation, said: “Improving accessibility on our cycle network is an important step in making active travel a realistic option for more people in Flintshire.
“We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to respond to the consultation.
“Their feedback has helped shape this important improvement work and will inform future changes across the network.”
