Flint fighter Jade Jones claims debut boxing win with second-round knockout

Jade Jones, the double Olympic taekwondo champion from Flint, won her first professional boxing bout by knockout in the second round on Friday night.
Jones, 32, stopped American fighter Egypt Criss at Misfits Duel 2 in Derby, flooring her three times with successive left hooks before the bout was waved off.
The win came in Jones’ first competitive boxing contest, having left taekwondo at the start of last year after two decades in the sport.
She won Olympic gold at London 2012 and Rio 2016, then said she needed a fresh challenge, setting herself a target of becoming a world champion in a second sport.
Jones has been training at Liverpool’s 4 Corners Gym under former professional boxer Stephen Smith, known as Swifty.
Criss, her debut opponent, is the daughter of hip-hop artists Anthony Criss, known as Treach from Naughty by Nature, and Sandra Denton, known as Pepa from Salt-N-Pepa.
Jones has spoken of taking inspiration from Lauren Price, the unified world boxing champion who previously competed in football, kickboxing and taekwondo before switching to boxing.
