Google has marked St David’s Day 2026 with a new homepage Doodle featuring a cross-stitch embroidery design of Welsh symbols, the 22nd time the company has celebrated Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant since 2004.

This year’s design is framed by a purple cross-stitch border with matching typography spelling out the Google name.

A red dragon, Y Ddraig Goch, takes centre stage alongside a yellow daffodil, the national flower of Wales, and a bundle of stitched leeks, the plant said to have sustained St David.

St David’s Day falls on 1 March each year and commemorates the patron saint of Wales, who died in 589 AD.

According to legend, one of his most famous miracles took place in Llanddewi Brefi, where the ground beneath him is said to have risen to form a hill so that he could be seen and heard by a large crowd.

Google first created a St David’s Day Doodle in 2004 and has produced a new design every year since.

The company regularly updates its homepage logo to mark cultural celebrations, historic events and notable figures worldwide.
