Disqualified driver jailed after failing to stop on A55 in Flintshire

A 35-year-old man from Rhyl has been jailed for multiple driving offences committed on the A55.
Mark Canavan, of Maes Bryn Melyd, appeared for sentencing at Mold Crown Court on Wednesday, 18 February.
He had previously admitted driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving while disqualified and driving without a licence.
The offences took place on Wednesday, 3 September 2025, as Canavan drove a Volkswagen Golf westbound along the A55.
Police officers attempted to stop the vehicle after it exited at a junction near Caerwys, suspecting it was being driven illegally.
Canavan failed to stop and a pursuit followed. During the pursuit, he exceeded speed limits and crossed solid white line road markings.
After leaving the vehicle, he fled on foot. He was later arrested at his home address in Rhyl.
At court, Canavan was sentenced to 56 weeks in prison and disqualified from driving for two years.
