Deeside station plan labelled ‘reheated’ by Plaid

Plaid Cymru has described the UK Government’s confirmation of a new station at Deeside Industrial Park as a “reheated” announcement.
The party said the seven-station programme was already outlined at last year’s Spending Review.
Plaid Cymru’s Westminster leader Liz Saville Roberts MP said: “Today’s announcement will feel like déjà vu to many people in Wales. These stations were already announced in last year’s Spending Review, with funding spread over a decade. Reheating old promises is not the generational transformation Wales was promised.”
The programme includes six stations in South Wales and one in north east Wales at Deeside Industrial Park in Flintshire.
It forms part of a wider Transport for Wales rail vision estimated to cost up to £14bn.
Alyn and Deeside MS Jack Sargeant defended the announcement.
He said: “This shows Labour in action and two governments working together to deliver for Wales. This is more than just bricks and mortar – it will mean better connections for the people of Deeside to jobs, education, healthcare, and spending time with friends and family.”
Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure Sam Rowlands MS also responded.
He said: “While we welcome investment in rail across Wales, rail funding has been cut by more than half under Labour compared to what was delivered by the previous UK Conservative Government.”
The £445m rail enhancement package confirmed in the 2025 Spending Review includes seven new stations across Wales, alongside infrastructure works near Padeswood Cement Works intended to enable two trains per hour on the Wrexham to Liverpool line.
