Chester Road in Shotton to close Saturday for emergency carriageway repairs

Emergency repair works will take place on Chester Road in Shotton this Saturday, 7 March, with Flintshire County Council highways operatives carrying out planing works to remove the most deteriorated section of carriageway near the Ash Grove car park.
The work is being carried out in advance of a full resurfacing scheme on the same stretch of road, due to begin on 18 March.
Chester Road has been subject to work being carried since early February as part of a wider Flintshire County Council highways scheme expected to run for up to 26 weeks.
The programme includes replacement bus shelters, new right-turning pockets at junctions on Charmley’s Lane, Chester Close, Nelson Street, and Jubilee Street, upgraded street lighting and traffic signals, and carriageway resurfacing between Shotton Lane and Brook Road.
The scheme has prompted complaints from residents about congestion, with some reporting journeys of 25 to 40 minutes on routes that normally take two.
Last week, Shotton East Ward councillor Mike Evans posted on social media questioning whether three weeks of disruption had been proportionate to the work completed, describing traffic through the town as “horrendous.”
Once Saturday’s emergency planing works are complete, the carriageway will remain in a temporary condition until the main resurfacing scheme gets under way on 18 March.
Full details of that programme will be made available next week, Flintshire County Council said.
