Roads into Chester city centre are closed this morning, Sunday 8 March, for the MBNA Chester 10K, with drivers from Deeside and north Flintshire advised to allow extra time or delay travel until after 10:30am.

Sealand Road, the main cross-border route from Queensferry and Sealand into Chester, will remain open for most of the morning but is closed in three short windows around each of the race’s three starts.

The closures on that section run from 08:58 to 09:10, then 09:28 to 09:40, and again from 09:58 to 10:10.

After 10:30am, Sealand Road and New Crane Street will be open without restriction.

Drivers travelling into Chester while closures are in place are advised to use Liverpool Road, Hoole Way, the A51 or Grosvenor Road.

Residents in Mollington, which the race route passes through, can reach Chester or the Wirral via Station Lane onto the A41.

Residents travelling to Saughall should use Overwood Lane or Coalpit Lane.

Some bus services are also affected and may be diverted during the closures.

The closures are agreed by Cheshire West and Chester Council and Cheshire Police.

The MBNA Chester 10K starts from Nuns Road next to Chester Racecourse, with three waves departing at 9am, 9:30am and 10am.
