Chester 10K draws record crowd as sell-out race marks ninth year

Emily Haggard Kearney broke the women’s course record at the MBNA Chester 10K on Sunday, finishing in 33:08, 22 seconds faster than the previous best.
The Warriors Pentathlon and Athletic Club athlete topped the women’s podium ahead of Emma Taylor, who finished in 36:47, and Lindsay Fisher, who completed the top three in 38:12.
In the men’s race, Matt Crichton crossed the line first in 31:15.
Courtney Edie finished second in 32:00, with Dan Morgan third in 32:37.
The sell-out event drew 8,000 runners to Chester, with the course starting at Chester Racecourse before heading out towards Mollington and returning through Northgate Street to finish on Eastgate Street beneath the Eastgate Clock.
The race, now in its ninth year, took place on International Women’s Day.

Managing Director Callum Shields said organisers were pleased with the turnout.
“This was a magnificent turnout for the ninth running of the event,” he said.
“The event coincided with International Women’s Day which added even more significance to the day.”
Race co-founder Chris Hulse said many of the 8,000 entrants were raising money for charity.
“Thousands were running to support charities close to their hearts, raising significant funds as they covered the 10K course,” he said.
“For many, the finish line marked the achievement of both a personal goal and a fundraising target.”
The Hospice of the Good Shepherd is the official charity for Active Leisure Events’ Chester races.
Organisers say they expect their three Chester events in 2026 to raise more than £1 million for local, regional and national causes.
The Essar Chester Half Marathon takes place in May, with the MBNA Chester Marathon and Metric Marathon scheduled for October.
More than 2,000 runners have already signed up for the Chester Triple Medal, awarded to those who complete all three races.
