Betsi Cadwaladr denies pillow shortage at Glan Clwyd Hospital after social media posts

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has denied there is a shortage of pillows or pillowcases at Glan Clwyd Hospital, after social media posts circulating over the weekend prompted a Flintshire councillor to write to the council’s chief officer for social services.
Cllr Helen Brown, who represents Hawarden Aston ward on Flintshire County Council, said she had seen posts over the weekend and contacted the health board to check whether they were accurate.
She said on Facebook: “This morning I spotted this post. I was gobsmacked to see this so I took it upon myself to find out if it was correct and unfortunately yes it is.”
She said she had written to the Chief Officer for Social Services with concerns raised about Glan Clwyd.
Stuart Keen, Director of Environment and Estates at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said the health board was aware of the social media posts and wanted to reassure patients, families and the public.
He said: “We would like to reassure patients, families and the public that there are no operational issues with the supply of pillows or pillowcases at the hospital. Appropriate stock levels are maintained and patient care is not affected.”
He said the health board would ask the public not to act on the posts.
He said: “While we appreciate the kindness and generosity shown by members of the public, we would kindly ask that people do not donate pillows, pillowcases or money in response to these posts.”
He said supplies at the hospital are managed through established procurement and infection prevention processes.
