A55 closures begin between Ewloe and Dobshill as four-week maintenance works get under way

Essential maintenance works on the A55 eastbound between junction 34 at Ewloe and junction 35 at Dobshill are now under way, with restrictions in place until 21 March.
The Welsh Government says weekday daytime works will involve a single carriageway lane closure from 6am to 8pm. Full eastbound closures will apply overnight on weekdays from 8pm to 6am, and across weekends from 8pm on Friday to 6am on Monday.
During full closures, traffic will be diverted via the A494, A5117 and A41, rejoining the A55 at junction 39. Diversions will be signposted in advance.
The closures are not limited to the main carriageway.
Junction 33b at Alltami is also subject to the same overnight and weekend closure pattern, as is the eastbound on-slip at junction 35 Dobshill.

Two westbound on-slips on the A494 at St Davids, including the slip road towards the A55 at Ewloe, are also closed on the same schedule throughout the works.
Overnight closures apply on the following weekday nights: 27 February to 2 March, 6 to 9 March, and 13 to 16 March. Weekend 24-hour closures run across the same periods.
Works include removing worn surfacing, repairing underlying concrete slabs, and replacing gullies and manholes before the road is resurfaced.
Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, said: “Maintaining our roads is essential to keeping Wales moving, and the A55 is a vital artery for communities and businesses across the region. I understand that roadworks can be frustrating, and I want to thank drivers in advance for their patience while this important work takes place. The improvements we are making will help extend the life of this road for years to come.”
The scheme is part of a wider £25m Welsh Government programme targeting resurfacing and pothole prevention on the Strategic Road Network.
