A Mother’s Day dinner with a pager on the table: Flint’s lifeboat mum and daughter

A mother and daughter from Flint are spending Mother’s Day this Sunday walking their dogs and going out for dinner, with their RNLI pagers close at hand in case they are needed.
Amanda and Lauren have been volunteer crew members at Flint RNLI since May 2025.
They joined after Lauren’s friend invited her on an acquaintance trip to the station.
Lauren brought Amanda along during one of her own visits, and both decided to sign up.
Lauren said: “I thought mum would really enjoy this opportunity and would be welcomed by the lifeboat crew.
“I brought her along one day while I was becoming acquainted with the lifeboat, she loved it and even took some images while she was there.
“We both enjoyed the experience and were so welcomed by everyone on the lifeboat and at the station, we decided to sign up and become part of the crew!”
Amanda passed out as shore crew on 21 February 2026, making her fully operational.
Lauren completed her Crew Emergency Procedures course in Poole shortly afterwards and is also now fully qualified.
Both have since received their crew kits and pagers.
Outside the lifeboat station, Amanda works as a part-time photographer and Lauren is a full-time nurse who also sings at charity events, including fundraisers for Flint RNLI.
Lauren said: “We both participate in the same lifeboat training exercises and are really proud of each other for our accomplishments in the RNLI.”
Amanda said: “We both enjoy being part of the crew and try and support each other in the development of our RNLI careers.
“It has strengthened our bond and enabled us to work together more cohesively as a crew, while also building a supportive network among ourselves, one that helps us navigate difficult calls and celebrate our achievements together.”
