New £2.4 million Deeside HQ for top housing provider
Work has begun on a brand new North Wales headquarters for top social housing provider Wales & West Housing.
Award-winning builders Anwyl Construction will carry out the £2.4 million project at St David’s Park, Ewloe, alongside their own new HQ.
Social housing experts Wales & West have made a massive investment in North Wales in recent years and Rhyl-based Anwyl have been their builder of choice on a series of award-winning projects.
But they have outgrown their current premises in Flint as they have expanded to provide much-needed affordable housing across North Wales.
They have chosen St David’s Park because of its convenient access to the A55 and the new property will also house Cambria Maintenance Ltd, their maintenance division which has also outgrown their site in Holywell.
Anne Hinchey, Chief Executive of Wales & West Housing, said:
“As with all our other building projects a strong emphasis will be placed upon using local suppliers, labour and materials for the build.
“In addition, Anwyl Construction will work with us to promote apprenticeships and training opportunities throughout the contract assisting people who are embarking upon a career in the construction industry.
“We’re looking forward to staff moving into the new offices next summer.”
The building design reflects the prominence of the site and is very ‘high tech’. It is 17,000 square feet including expansion space, accommodating 47 Wales & West Housing staff and 15 Cambria Maintenance staff with ample parking for staff and visitors.
Award-winning Wales & West projects in North Wales have included the £15 million Kingsmills Road and Rivulet Road development in Wrexham, a £10 million extra care unit at Llys Jasmine in Mold and £3.3 million Flint House which provides accommodation for over 55s on the site of the former Delyn Council Offices in Flint.
All were built by Anwyl Construction and their Contracts Director Tom Anwyl said:
“We have been delighted to work with Wales & West Housing on a number of projects from Anglesey to Wrexham and together we have won awards for several of them.
“They have a massive commitment to the area and their programme of building affordable housing across the region helped the local construction industry through the worst of the recession.
“It also meant that we and others were able to provide apprenticeships across a range of construction skills and so maintain an effective and skilled building industry workforce in the area.
“This is vital in ensuring that when major projects arise that companies like ours have the skills and the competencies to carry them out and that is a boost to the local economy.
“Wales & West share our commitment to supporting apprenticeships and local supply lines and that has safeguarded a considerable number of jobs over the last few years.”
Work on the two new headquarters buildings will continue in tandem with Anwyl Construction, who were founded in Rhyl in 1930, expecting to complete their new premises in the spring of next year.
