180 Flintshire hens need a home by Friday — or they face slaughter

180 ex-commercial laying hens will face slaughter unless new owners come forward before 4pm this Friday, the British Hen Welfare Trust has warned.
The charity is holding a rehoming event in Ffrith, Flintshire on Sunday 15 March, but anyone wanting to adopt must register by 4pm on Friday 14 March.
The hens are 18 months old and have reached the end of their commercial laying life.
The British Hen Welfare Trust says they are still capable of laying eggs and are looking for owners who can provide secure housing, food, water and basic care.
Andy Hill from the trust said: “People are often surprised by how much joy hens bring.
“They’re funny, curious little characters, they love routine, and they’re genuinely a delight to care for.
“Plus, they’re still more than happy to pop out the occasional egg.
“With spring finally here, this is the ideal time to start — and these hens are more than ready for a fresh beginning, and they make wonderful pets.”
To adopt, visit bhwt.org.uk/hen-adoption and click ‘adopt’ next to the Ffrith location, or call the BHWT rehoming team on 01884 860084.
The British Hen Welfare Trust was founded in 2005 and has rehomed more than one million ex-commercial hens across the UK.
It operates 48 collection points and is supported by around 1,400 volunteers.
