Yellow snow and ice warning issued for Flintshire

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for Flintshire, with some travel disruption expected.
The warning has been issued by the Met Office and covers the period between midnight and midday on Friday 2 January.
Forecasters say an area of sleet and snow is expected to move south eastwards across parts of Wales, lasting around two to three hours in any one location.
Where snow falls, accumulations of one to two centimetres are likely in some areas, with up to five centimetres possible in a few spots, particularly on higher ground in north Wales.
The Met Office said icy patches are likely to develop quickly as sleet and snow clears, particularly on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
The warning highlights the potential for longer journey times on roads and railways, alongside an increased risk of slips and falls on icy surfaces.
Flintshire is among a number of local authorities in Wales included in the warning area, alongside neighbouring counties in north east Wales.
Residents are advised to allow extra time for journeys, check road conditions and public transport updates, and take care when travelling on foot or by bike.
Chief Meteorologist, Jason Kelly, said “We’re entering a much colder period with Arctic air sinking south to cover the whole country by Friday. Temperatures will fall well below average, with snow showers and snow accumulations likely, particularly in northern and some central areas. There is also a risk of widespread ice.
“Very cold temperatures will continue through Saturday and Sunday, with minus double figures overnight and daytime temperatures not rising above 0°C for many areas.
“Wintry hazards will continue, with more severe weather warnings possible. It looks like this cold spell could last well into next week, so it is important people keep up to date with the latest forecast and warnings and plan ahead.”
Alongside Flintshire, the yellow snow and ice warning covers a wide area of Wales and England.
In Wales, the warning applies to all local authorities. This includes neighbouring counties Wrexham, Denbighshire, Conwy and Gwynedd, as well as Powys, Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil, Torfaen, Monmouthshire and Newport.
In England, parts of the North West are included, covering Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Greater Manchester, Halton and Warrington.
The warning also stretches across large parts of the Midlands, the South West, the East of England, London and the South East. Counties affected range from Derbyshire and Staffordshire to Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Kent, Surrey and Greater London.
The Met Office said snow and sleet are expected to move south east across affected areas, with the greatest accumulations likely on higher ground in north Wales and parts of north west England.
